Rep. John Lewis on the Reopening of the Federal Government
“I am relieved for the families of over 800,000 dedicated federal workers, including thousands of my constituents, that the longest government shutdown in American history is finally over. They did not deserve these consequences, and I hope that they receive their paychecks without delay. Further, I hope that federal contractors who have gone without pay will also be made whole.
“Now that the President has finally responded to reason and removed federal workers under his leadership out of harm’s way, I hope this administration and my colleagues in Congress will recommit to the ideals of true democracy involving reasonable debate, diplomacy in good faith, and legislative compromise reached for the good of the nation.”
